Greetings! Thank you for stopping by Julie Paige Soulspeak Art. Please allow me to tell you a little about myself. My name is Julie Houser Gordy. I am an artist, an Art of Allowing facilitator, and also a licensed massage therapist. Painting has been a passion of mine for twenty plus years, which began with tole (folk art) painting, eventually evolving into fine art. I've alwayes loved all things creative and painting is not just a desire for me...it is a need. Painting fulfills my inner need to play, create, and connect with my higher power. We all have these needs as humans, and being at a canvas, most likely with my hands covered in paint, is my happy place!
It's been quite a journey and I have studied with some amazing artists including Flora Aube, Shiloh Sophia, and Michal Shimoni, all of which have led me to my current artistic path. For the past several years my focus in painting has been connecting to and portraying the Divine Feminine. We are all gifted (regardless of gender) with both Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine traits, the feminine being our intuitive, creative, nurturing side. By trusting this side of ourselves and listening to what she says, we can tap into the magical creativity in all of us.
I approach my paintings by connecting to this Divine source, first, getting still and quiet and truly listening for what she wants to convey on the canvas. Music and meditation allow me to enter that space and allows the creative flow to begin. Once that flow begins it's like a dance between myself and the canvas, trusting what is coming through, keeping myself open to anything that may arise, and staying out of my head...my heart and inner knowing are the guides.
This approach to painting has truly changed my life. Allowing myself to create and asking the critic to take a vacation has been liberating, healing, and allowed incredible growth, as an artist and as a woman as well.
You are invited to experience the same when you come paint with me in an Art of Allowing workshop. Whether you're young or old, man or woman, everyone is creative (whether you believe it or not). Tapping into the creative gift we all have, and allowing it to flow in a non-judgmental environment is a powerful tool for self-expression and healing. You'll be amazed at what you create...I promise. Come join me!
Julie currently lives in Greenwood, SC with her two children, her partner David, two dogs and a rabbit.
